Trabzonspor, from the Black Sea port of Trabzon, were formed in 1967 by the merger of local clubs and became the first team from outside Istanbul to win the Turkish championship, in 1975–76 — the start of a run of six titles in nine seasons. Their seventh came in 2021–22.
The Claret and Blues play at Papara Park, named the Şenol Güneş Stadium after their legendary goalkeeper and coach, and are the fourth of Turkey’s big four.
