Samsunspor were founded in 1965 in Samsun, the largest city on the Black Sea coast, and were a top-flight regular from the 1980s until 2012. The club’s history is marked by the 1989 bus crash that killed players and staff and shaped the city’s bond with the team.
After more than a decade away, including a spell in the third tier, the Red Lightning returned to the Süper Lig in 2023 and play at the Samsun 19 Mayıs Stadium. Red and white.
