Eyüpspor come from Eyüp, the historic district on the Golden Horn in Istanbul, and date back to 1919. For a century they were a lower-league side; a rise through the divisions in the 2020s took them to the 1. Lig and then, as champions in 2024, to the Süper Lig for the first time in their history.

They are one of several Istanbul clubs in the top flight and the only one in purple and white.
