The DFB-Pokal is Germany’s national cup, first played in 1935. Sixty-four clubs enter the first round in August: the 36 clubs of the Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga, the top four of the 3. Liga and the winners of the regional cup competitions. In the first two rounds the lower-ranked club is always at home, which makes the opening weekend famous for upsets.

Every tie is a single match, settled by extra time and penalties when needed; there are no replays and no two-legged rounds. The quarter-finals and semi-finals are played in the spring, and the final has been held at Berlin’s Olympiastadion every year since 1985.

Bayern Munich are the record winners with 20 titles. The winner qualifies for the Europa League and meets the league champion in the Supercup at the start of the following season. Golalarm covers each DFB-Pokal tie with live scores and full match details where available.
