The EFL Cup, known as the Carabao Cup under its current sponsor and historically as the League Cup, is contested by the 92 clubs of the Premier League and the English Football League. It began in 1960–61 and runs on midweek dates, which gives it a different rhythm to the FA Cup: the early rounds are played in August and September, the quarter-finals before Christmas and the final in February or March.

Ties are single matches decided on the night, by extra time and penalties if needed; only the semi-finals are played over two legs. Clubs involved in Europe enter in the third round, so the opening rounds belong to the lower divisions and often deliver the competition’s biggest upsets.

Liverpool are the record winners with ten titles. The final is played at Wembley, and the winner is awarded a European place unless they have already qualified through the league. On Golalarm each tie carries live scores and, for the later rounds, full lineups and statistics.
