The Coupe de France, first played in 1917, is the most open national cup in Europe: several thousand clubs enter every season, from village sides in the regional qualifying rounds to the Ligue 1 champions, and teams from France’s overseas territories take part too. Professional clubs join in the autumn, and Ligue 1 clubs enter at the round of 64 around the turn of the year.

Every tie is a single match, and when teams from different divisions are drawn together the lower-ranked club is at home. There are no replays and no second legs; a draw is settled on the day, by penalties if necessary. The final is played at the Stade de France in late spring.

Paris Saint-Germain have won the competition more than anyone, with Marseille a distant second. The winner qualifies for the Europa League and meets the Ligue 1 champion in the Trophée des Champions. Golalarm follows each Coupe de France tie with live scores and, for the professional rounds, lineups and statistics.
