Serie A is the top division of Italian football, played as a single national round-robin since 1929–30. Twenty clubs play 38 rounds from August to May; the champions wear the Scudetto, the small tricolour shield, on their shirts the following season, and the bottom three are relegated to Serie B.
Juventus are the record champions with 36 titles, followed by Inter and Milan; Napoli’s 2023 title was their first since the Maradona era, and they won again in 2025. The league’s reputation for tactical rigour is long-standing, but the modern Serie A is also a high-scoring one, and its derbies — the Derby della Madonnina in Milan, the Derby d’Italia between Inter and Juventus, the Derby della Capitale in Rome — are among Europe’s fiercest.
The top four qualify for the Champions League, the Coppa Italia winner for the Europa League, and the Capocannoniere award goes to the season’s top scorer. On Golalarm every Serie A match carries live scores, lineups, statistics and player ratings, and the standings tab tracks the title race round by round.
