The FIFA World Cup is the biggest event in sport. It has been played every four years since 1930, with breaks only for the Second World War, and is contested by national teams who qualify through continental competitions over the preceding two to three years. The 2026 edition, co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico, was the first with 48 teams and 104 matches.

The tournament opens with a group stage — twelve groups of four in the 48-team format, from which the top two in each group and the eight best third-placed teams advance — followed by a knockout bracket from the round of 32 to the final. Brazil, with five titles up to 2022, top the all-time list; Germany, Italy, Argentina, France and Uruguay have all won it more than once.

Golalarm covers every World Cup match with live scores, lineups, statistics and player ratings, and shows the group tables as they take shape.
